Sooo excited to start making my ring for my project tomorrow night at jewellery class. It's Sterling Silver set with Turquoise on both sides and etched with the ancient Filipino writing Baybayin (also known as Alibata to some). I will have it etched with three words that I feel speak truth to my being. PEACE,LOVE,JOY. Looking forward to the final product! <3 :)

The Baybayin has found itself popular over the last decade, more and more young people with Filipino heritage are all quick to don a tattoo with the ancient writing. The fascination seems to be with the alphabet seeming almost hieroglyphic like and therefore suitable for tattoo's also in which can have a deeper meaning and sense of pride for the country of the Philippines. (eg myself) :)
Baybayin is a pre-Spanish Philippine writing system. It is a member of the Brahmic family and is recorded as being in use in the 16th century. It continued to be used during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines up until the late 19th Century.
The term Baybay literally means "to spell" in Tagalog (the current national language of the Philippines). Baybayin was extensively documented by the Spanish and is also known by the name "Alibata" but this is incorrect.
Baybayin is one many individual writing systems used in South East Asia, nearly all of which are abugidas where any consonant is pronounced with the inherent vowel a following it— diacritical marks being used to express other vowels (this vowel occurs with greatest frequency in Sanskrit, and also probably in all Philippine languages). Modern scripts in the Philippines, descended from Baybayin, are Hanunó'o, Buhid, Tagbanwa and Kapampangan script.
